Every painting is like stepping out of my comfort zone, only I’m not in discomfort – I actually love it there. The brush, the paint, the surface, takes me on a journey and all I have to do is tag along. I’m in flow, I’m at ease, I’m in my zone, in the Vortex or whatever you want to call it. Finally I can breathe deep and relax. It’s funny like that – stepping out of comfort to be in that total flow.
To honour that, today’s painting is self-portrait made from a fast sketch with the wrong hand, not lifting the pen, and drawn with my left hand. The background is acrylic and the face is made with oil pastel crayons.
