For my last piece of christmas calendar posts I’ve chosen this oil painting sketch. I took a pen sketch and went over it with oil colours. The paper holds the colours okey I think. The result has a nice feeling to it, I think. The first sketch is visible, yet there is the fast oil painting. Happy holidays! I’ll be back like tomorrow with something else to share.
I’m intrigued with backgrounds and can paint a bunch of them just to try colours and work different brushes. Sometimes there are layers and layers and layers of paint before I find the right feeling. It’s s intuitive process and I feel like a big part of it is not trying to force anything, and just go with the brush. This is a dreamy background in oil. I can look at it for hours, and it would be nice to paint on a larger canvas, mdf board or canvas panel. Feels right to share when it’s so dark outside and...
Some days are some days and you might not paint or you might not even draw a single thing. Still, you could be thinking about a lot of painting and sketching stuff. And those things can be hard to show you. Just now. I mean, I got to paint and sketch first. Right?! So today I give you this sketch I made back in may. I’m super happy I picked it up again because it might be something to paint! Here it is!
Day 21 is a work in progress. I closed my eyes @franniefannyart chose the colours. Then I got inspired and a flamingo came to life. Then I went ahead and ruined it all. Got ”mad” and went away. Sat on the floor a bit with my cat. Got up again, took my new favourite brush and went at it again. Don’t know if I’m done with the painting. It’s a matter of progress and communicating with this piece. We’ll see...
Painted on mdf board. My first painting on this kind of wooden board and I’m hooked. I like the stiff surface, even more than painting on stretched canvas.
It’s interesting to paint birds because you can add emotion and movement and create something beyond colours and shapes. This one moves my heart. The bird will lift you up when you lay down. If you let it.
I got myself a new (or seven) brush. A round synthetic one. And discovered some new moves when I was painting. I could roll it and dutta (a Swedish word) around with the paint. Really nice! I'll shoot a brush video some day soon. Brushes are seriously vicious wonderful things. They grab me and not the other way around. Like yesterday when I was goind to bed and I just had to look at the brushes. All of a sudden I was painting instead of sleeping! (Kind of love that though)
A double portrait piece I created today. It somewhat started as a simple idea and then grew into this look. The colour process went a little back and forth before I even started to paint today. There are at least two layers of paint beneath this final painting. The title is "Leon on you".
I was thinking what to write today, but this lady just wanted to sit and think and sip on her fine red grape juice, so I’m not going to disturb her.
Some days are for shuffling paint like you know what you’re doing and some days there’s just blah... and that’s when you stop and have a look at your tools and see how beautiful they are. I clean my brushes. My painting knifes are a different story. I love them like this, all coloured up. Like a piece of art in their own capacity.
I know, I know... How many birds can you paint? A lot! That's why I'm increasing the speed of them coming at you, and today you get to see two new birds. I couldn't chose so there you go. Which one do you like the most?
Another bird! Love to paint them, I mean I really put so much love and joy into painting and the birds I've been painting lately are amazing in my eyes (and brush). In this painting I wanted to go with a less chaotic background, still portraying the bird in motion like if it's playing in a puddle. What do you think?
Guess I enjoy painting my imaginary birds. I think of a parrot and paint something from within. This time I thought of a flamingo because hey, they're really beautiful! And then I add some. There are plenty of flamingos portraited in different ways. I just enjoyed painting this one, and I hope you enjoy looking at it.
This week my subconscious is doing all the painting. Here I am wanting them to sing, but they want something else and girl, I’m listening!
Exploring blue tones in oil. And having fun with the sweater, or maybe rather the neck collar thingie. Painted on a special paper from a paper factory in Piteå. It’s not really for painting, but I like it.
